The Economic Development Commission, a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), has announced its approval of the Spares in Motion for the Rural Jump-Start Tax Credit Program.
Spares in Motion, a Netherlands-based company, has selected Grand Junction, Colorado, as its first North American location. Spares in Motion is the largest international e-business platform for the wind turbine market ranging from spare parts, repair capabilities, wind turbine service, and new and used turbines. The company currently has locations in the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, and now the United States. Their Grand Junction location will supply components and repairs for wind turbines across the country and in Canada and Mexico.
Spares in Motion’s Director of Business Development, Justin Canup, said, “Grand Junction has been my home for over ten years. When Spares in Motion was looking for a North American location, I suggested Grand Junction because it’s centrally located and right off a main highway, making it easy to access support for wind farms across North America.”
The company recently celebrated two major milestones: opening its doors at 372 27 ½ Rd near Las Colonias Park in Grand Junction and approval into the Rural Jump Start Program. Through the Rural Jump Start Program, Spares in Motion can receive significant tax breaks and cash grants for up to 8 years. This includes eligibility to receive up to $20,000 as a newly established business and up to $2,500 per new hire.
Canup stated, “Being approved for the Rural Jump Start Program is a great benefit, which will help us get started and work with Colorado Mesa University on projects and internships. The Grand Junction Economic Partnership has been a great support, helping us get settled and providing us with the needed resources. We’re excited to grow in Mesa County and contribute to the community’s stability.”
The Rural Jump Start Program was established to provide more employment and career opportunities for rural areas in Colorado. The program originated in Mesa County in 2015 and was spearheaded by Colorado Mesa University (CMU), local business leaders, and economic development partners.
Throughout its expansion process and application to the Rural Jump Start Program, Spares in Motion has worked closely with the Grand Junction Economic Partnership(GJEP). To be eligible for the program, businesses must be new to the state of Colorado, create a minimum of five new jobs, must add to the economic base and export goods or services outside of Mesa County, and cannot be in direct competition with another business in the area.
