Virtual Series II

Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Shifts, Trends, + Unicorns

We are at a tipping point and economic developers need to be ready to harness the
opportunities that are beginning to come to light

July 21, 2021 | 10 – 11:30 a.m.

As mentioned by one of our past speakers this year, we are dawning a new age that will bring economic opportunities unseen in the past century – somewhat akin to the Roaring Twenties. Innovation is charging ahead creating newly anticipated technologies that will increase economic opportunities for our communities and Economic Developers need to be prepared for the coming wave.

In the same spirit as EDCC’s 2020 Virtual Series began, we will tackle the difficult questions, analysis, and trends of the shifting entrepreneurial ecosystem, and by identifying the opportunities facing our communities. EDCC’s Events & Programming, Data, and Communication Committees are coming together to bring a one-of-kind virtual event that will get to the heart of these issues, provide data to back up theories developed in the exploration, to result in a thought-leader position report that our professionals will be able to use to help guide conversations and actions at the local level. Thought Leadership Paper Executive Summary

A new age, heightened by the prospect for economic opportunities – unseen since the end of the Web 2.0 boom (2004 – 2008) – is dawning. Akin to the Industrial Revolution, innovators are charging ahead creating new technologies designed to meet the growing demands across a multitude of vertical markets.

As economic developers, we need to continue to support and advocate for the development of infrastructural and financial ecosystems to benefit these companies and ensure that Colorado’s entrepreneurs have every advantage to form, launch, and scale their businesses.

The Economic Development Council of Colorado (EDCC) assembled a panel of five experts to provide perspectives on the needs and barriers along a startup’s journey to become a thriving business. Barriers and challenges to accessing markets, early-stage funding, and essential infrastructure improvements topped the list of challenges that confront new and expanding businesses as we rebuild and recover from the economic downturn brought on by the pandemic.

Come examine with us the shifts and trends that are affecting Colorado’s startup ecosystem and learn what is needed for these startups to become unicorns in Colorado’s post-pandemic entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Tackling Timely Perplexing Issues with Intentional Deliverables

With the same spirit that drove EDCC’s 2020 and 2021 Virtual Series, we will tackle our most perplexing issues by bringing together thought leaders within our industry to explore concepts, theories and analysis that will help bring consensus around these issues. This work will result in timely thought-leader position reports that can guide professionals through conversations and actions at the local level.

Objectives:

  • Lead the effort of engagement of our vast community of economic development stakeholders including local, regional, and state leaders.
  • Harness the knowledge and expertise of our contingency along with extensive recovery research and thought-leader input.
  • Educate, inform, and advocate for near and longterm resiliency applications to help spur economic recovery.

Public Access:
We encourage all EDCC members to participate in these events. It gives our community a chance to connect outside of our annual networking events.
