Veronica Mata Named 2026 Rookie of the Year at EDIE Awards
Centennial economic development professional recognized for business support and regional initiative
CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. — September 24, 2026 — The Economic Development Council of Colorado (EDCC) named Veronica Mata its 2026 Rookie of the Year at the EDIE Awards during the Drive|Lead|Succeed Conference in Cripple Creek. This year’s awards hold special significance as EDCC celebrates its 50th anniversary, honoring major milestones and spotlighting the visionary programs that keep Colorado’s economy thriving and resilient for the future.
Mata was recognized for quickly making an impact on business support and industry recruitment in Centennial. She managed a 14-business cohort of SPARK Centennial, then redesigned the accelerator’s 2026 program for 12 new businesses. By reducing reliance on outside consultants, she redirected city funds into resources for participating businesses and strengthened connections with program alumni.
She has also advanced the city’s aerospace outreach. Mata represented Centennial and the Denver South region at the Small Satellite Conference in Utah, conducting business attraction and retention meetings, and helped connect Denver South with Step One 2 Launch, a local hub for defense and aerospace innovation.
Mata completed EDCC’s Basic Economic Development Course in 2026 and enrolled in IEDC coursework toward Certified Economic Developer credentials. She serves on EDCC’s Professional Development Committee and contributes to regional economic development groups.
“Veronica has brought initiative and curiosity to the profession from the start,” said Tyler Purvis, EDCC’s 2026 Board Chair. “She is already connecting businesses, partners and peers in ways that strengthen her community.”
