Stephan Weiler, Wins ‘Partnership of the Year’ Award at EDIE Awards

Dr. Stephan Weiler Honored with Partnership of the Year Award at EDCC’s 2025 EDIE Awards

Pueblo, CO — October 28, 2025 — The Economic Development Council of Colorado (EDCC) presented the Partnership of the Year Award to Dr. Stephan Weiler, Professor of Economics at Colorado State University, and Founding Director of the university’s Regional Economic Development Institute (REDI@CSU), during its annual Drive|Lead|Succeed Conference in Pueblo. The EDIE Awards recognize excellence in economic development and celebrate leaders and communities shaping Colorado’s economic future.

Dr. Weiler was recognized for his unwavering commitment to collaboration, his role as a guiding light for economic education, and his ability to translate academic insight into practical, impactful solutions for communities across the state. The award celebrates a partner who consistently collaborates with EDCC members and stakeholders to retain, expand, and attract primary employers, thereby ensuring the long-term sustainability and vitality of Colorado’s economy.

A key factor in his recognition is his innovative leadership, which includes the creation of the Regional Economic Development Institute (REDI). This institute was specifically designed to serve as a framework for helping communities’ problem-solve and collaborate with regional stakeholders, effectively bridging the gap between academia and real-world economic action. Dr. Weiler’s dedication has empowered a generation of students to apply economic fundamentals to pressing regional challenges.

“Dr. Weiler has built the essential bridge for strong partnerships to thrive between educational institutions, workforce organizations, and the business community,” said Rich Wobbekind, Associate Dean at the University of Colorado Boulder, during the presentation. “His unique combination of intellect, innovation, and commitment to community action—epitomized by the creation of REDI—is unmatched. His legacy of partnership and service will be felt in Colorado for decades to come.”

“The impact of Dr. Weiler’s work extends far beyond the classroom,” said Kim Woodworth, EDCC Executive Director. “His commitment to fostering an innovative, collaborative environment where data and dedication meet community needs is the very definition of a true partnership and serves as an inspiring model statewide.”

Hosted annually by EDCC, the EDIE Awards honor the people, programs, and partnerships that exemplify innovation, collaboration, and impact in economic development across Colorado.
