Representative Rick Taggart Receives 2026 Legislator Lifetime Achievement Award

Grand Junction legislator recognized for sustained service to businesses and communities

CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. — September 24, 2026 —  The Economic Development Council of Colorado (EDCC) presented its 2026 Legislator Lifetime Achievement Award to Representative Rick Taggart at the EDIE Awards during the Drive|Lead|Succeed Conference in Cripple Creek.This year’s awards hold special significance as EDCC celebrates its 50th anniversary, honoring major milestones and spotlighting the visionary programs that keep Colorado’s economy thriving and resilient for the future.

Taggart’s career spans more than three decades of executive leadership, civic service and public office. He has held chief executive roles with Swiss Army Brands, Marmot and Timberland, served in leadership at Colorado Mesa University, and spent six years on the Grand Junction City Council, including two years as mayor. He has also contributed to regional business, housing, health care and airport organizations.

In the Colorado Legislature, Taggart has sponsored measures addressing the Job Growth Incentive Tax Credit, the Rural Jump-Start Program, business entity filings and county revitalization authorities. His work has also supported employee-owned business tax credits and financing tools for downtown development authorities.

Through service on the Joint Budget Committee and Appropriations Committee, Taggart has brought a Western Slope perspective to fiscal decisions affecting communities across the state.
