MICHELLE CLAYMORE, CITY OF COMMERCE CITY RECEIVES ‘CHAIRMAN’S CHOICE AWARD’ FROM THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL OF COLORADO
Top people, places and projects in economic development honored at annual awards dinner and ceremony.
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO (Oct. 21, 2021) – Michelle Claymore, CEcD, Director of Economic Development for the City of Commerce City, was awarded the ‘Chairman’s Choice’ award for 2021. The honor was presented at EDCC’s annual EDIE Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with its annual Drive|Lead|Succeed Conference held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado last week.
Since 1989, EDCC has recognized nearly 200 members, volunteers, communities, companies, and legislators for their outstanding achievement in economic development in the State of Colorado. This year, EDCC celebrated the achievements of 10 individuals, communities, partners, and legislators.
Michelle was hand selected by this year’s Board Chair, Laura Lewis Marchino for the ‘Chairman’s Choice’ award for her many achievements over the past 25 years in the following activities:
- Michelle has served on EDCC’s Board of Directors and Professional Development Committee in many different capacities over the past highly committed 13-years of service.
- As a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), Michelle found the importance and value of well trained professionals in our industry. She took it upon herself to develop and implement EDCC’s Basic Economic Development Course. This highly regarded, International Economic Development Council (IEDC) accredited course, is held every year – even during a pandemic! Michelle is the course instructor and brings in many of our talented professionals, here in Colorado, as guest speakers.
- Michelle routinely advocates for increasing the number of CEcD’s and successfully brought IEDC’s course exam to Colorado to help save on time and money spent in taking the exam.
- Michelle’s professional achievements are many including her time in Jefferson County where she directly worked with expanding and relocating businesses including Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Ball Corporation, Terumo BCT, Trimble Navigation, The Coleman Company, and CoorsTek.
- Michelle is a friend, a mentor, and a highly regarded economic development practitioner here in Colorado and we are fortunate to have her building the economic vitality for the City of Commerce City!

Each of these winners, give a glimpse into what our professionals and stakeholders – here in Colorado – are doing, in keeping Colorado’s economy moving forward. More than ever, the value and importance of sustainable economic development, needs to be shined upon as we power the great economic comeback.
