Today, Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera and the Governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two states intended to deepen cultural ties and encourage scientific and technological collaboration that prioritizes climate protection and the sustainable use of resources.

“The effects of climate change are being felt across our state and around the world. Thankfully there are many promising scientific and technological advances that can help us further adapt and mitigate the impacts of climate change. We are pleased to partner with the Government of Lower Austria, which shares Colorado’s commitment to a greener future and whose businesses and industries complement ours, on this critical effort,” said Lt. Governor Primavera.

Colorado and Lower Austria share complementary proficiencies in advanced manufacturing, healthtech, renewables and cleantech, and electronics and robotics. The areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU focus on green tech, renewables and climate protection; economic development and business cooperation; digital technology and advanced manufacturing; science and research; sports and recreation; and culture.

Today, the Lt. Governor welcomed Governor Mikl-Leitner and a delegation of state ministers, staff and advisors at the Capitol building in Denver. The visit and signing followed a day of tours at Boulder, Colorado businesses and research institutions, including the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Ball Aerospace & Technologies and Pilatus.

“The relationship Colorado has cultivated with Lower Austria will benefit both regions and their peoples by strengthening the exchange of ideas, information, experience and best practices between economic, scientific and cultural organizations,” said Patrick Meyers, Executive Director of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade.

“The MoU is the starting signal for intensified collaboration between the State of Lower Austria and the State of Colorado. With a clear focus on green tech, digitalization and advanced manufacturing I am convinced that we can learn and benefit a lot from each other,” said Lower Austria’s Governor Mikl-Leitner.
