9 – 9:10 a.m.                      Welcome, EDCC Overview and Legislative Platform

Presenter: John Hall – EDCC Board Chair | Economic Development Director, City of Westminster

Hall will present an overview of EDCC and its core mission, including how the EDCC engages at the state level and its impact on communities around the state. Hall will discuss EDCC’s new legislative platform and its significance.

Commissioner David Weaver – Douglas County, District 1

9:15 – 9:45 a.m.                 REGIONAL OUTLOOK: Successfully Managing Growth

Presenter: Patrick Holwell – Workforce Economist, Arapahoe/Douglas Works

Transportation, housing and economic opportunity are the three largest factors of a region’s ongoing economic vitality, along with a strong infrastructure, and a good quality of life. Holwell will focus on how community leaders can work together to overcome barriers and support our diverse, robust and growing economy.

9:45 – 10:45 a.m.               AN ECONOMIC CATALYST: Transportation and Transit Oriented Development

Moderator: Lauren Masias – Public Information Officer & Director of Community Engagement, Denver South EDP

Masias will present an overview of the projects slated for the I-25 corridor along with a two-year study just completed on what drives business location decisions around light rail stops. This type of project has led to an increase in economic growth for the region.

The panel will engage in a discussion around the use of public private partnerships that has led to the success of this type of development; best practices and lessons learned along the way; and how each community can look at their transportation assets and turn them into an opportunity for economic growth.

10:45 – 11:45 a.m.              TRENDING: The Value of Place Making through Arts, Culture and Recreational Tourism

Moderator: Ed Sealover – Reporter, Denver Business Journal
Using statistical data, both state-wide and nationally, Ed will report on the economic impact that place making has made for communities around the state.

Presenter: Stephanie Copeland – Executive Director, Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT)
Copeland will provide an overview on the State of Colorado’s economic development priorities and upcoming initiatives.

12:45 – 1:30 p.m.               Educate & Prepare Tomorrow’s Workforce

How communities are not only adapting to meet the increasing demand for highly skilled and educated employees but responding to the specific needs of the employers.

Moderator: Frank Gray – President and CEO, Castle Rock EDC

Dr. Dianna Doyle – President, Arapahoe Community College
Luella Chavez D’Angelo, MBA – Vice Chancellor for Enterprise Development, University of Colorado, South Denver

We are starting to see a shift in how education is delivered. Both CU South Denver and Arapahoe Community College have re-imagined the traditional university campus. The panel will discuss what led to this trend and how it has impacted their communities.

1:30 – 2:00 p.m.                How Airports Play a Significant Role in Economic Development

Presenter: Robert Olislagers – Airport Director, Centennial Airport

Robert will discuss the significant role the airport plays in economic development and will explore current trends he is seeing in the aviation industry to help better prepare our communities.
